Advancement in berth scour protection has been mainly led by research and observation of performance in harbours. This paper seeks to review and summarize this research and development to provide a clearer understanding of the fundamental concepts and associated guidance. Hopefully this may be helpful to the engineering community and offers the prospect of improved protection to berths in compliance with PIANC guidance.
